“My child only eats carb type foods”
“My child will cough or gag occasionally on food or stuffs his mouth”
“My child will not even try a new food”
“Mealtimes are always a struggle”
Every child is unique and feeding challenges vary between each child. Feeding issues vary from inadequate food intake, refusal of foods, being very selective about what type of foods they will eat, mealtime battles, difficulty transitioning from baby food to solids, and concerns about safety when managing food and/or liquid (i.e. gagging, coughing, choking, etc.).
Some children may have a nasogastric tube or gastrostomy tube that provides primary nutrition and need assistance in expanding their diet. Feeding difficulties can be related to behavioral, sensory based issues and/or oral motor components affecting their ability to manage liquids and solids.
A thorough assessment is required to fully comprehend your child’s feeding needs.
